2021 Wendy's Frosty 5K

The annual Wendy's Frosty 5K Run for Adoption is hosted by The Wendy's Company. The 2021 virtual event will raise funds and awareness for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

More than 150,000 children are waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States and Canada. Without our help, many of these youth are at risk of aging out of the system without a permanent home.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national, nonprofit public charity dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions from foster care. Created by Wendy's founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grantmaking. Through the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program, the Foundation supports the hiring of recruiters dedicated to serving youth who have been waiting in foster care the longest.

Success Story

Placed in foster care as infants, Elias and Niyah spent more than three years of their young lives in foster care. Thankfully, with help from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption's caring supporters, the siblings were adopted by Kameca and Jamar through the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program.

"Our Wendy's Wonderful Kids recruiter helped us beyond what words could ever repay, from supporting us through each transition to being present at our adoption finalization," recalls Kameca.

Imagine what life might have been like for Elias and Niyah had they not been adopted. Like so many children waiting in foster care, the siblings could have been separated ... bouncing from home to home ... always worrying that they might have to move ... again.

Today, the siblings are thriving in school and enjoy many activities. Niyah says she loves to teach her brother math, and Elias says he loves "being able to play with Niyah, every day!"

Through adoption, Elias and Niyah have grown socially, emotionally and physically, says Kameca. "My children are not biologically mine, but my heart doesn't know the difference."
